A New Chapter: Smithtown Strings
Smithtown Strings was proudly formed in 2023, realizing a long-held vision within the local music community. For several years, it had been the goal of Mr. William Link, Executive Director and Founder of the Smithtown Community Band (SCB), to expand the organization’s musical offerings by implementing a dedicated string orchestral program.
Committed to musical excellence, the ensemble performs a challenging and rewarding repertoire consisting of NYSSMA Level 5 and 6 literature. Because of the advanced nature of the music, prospective members are encouraged to carefully consider the level of difficulty and their own proficiency before joining.
Smithtown Strings warmly invites passionate string players of all ages who have a strong desire to perform in a collaborative ensemble setting. We are currently seeking musicians to build a rich, full orchestral sound across all string instruments, including violin, viola, cello, bass, and harp.

Mission Statement
The Smithtown Community Band's mission is to enrich the cultural life of the Smithtown Township and its surrounding neighborhoods by providing accessible, high-quality musical performances and fostering a strong sense of community pride.
This mission incorporates four core objectives:
-
To provide free and accessible musical entertainment to the residents of Smithtown, bringing neighbors together through outdoor summer concerts and local events.
-
To collaborate with local organizations, including libraries, historical societies, and chambers of commerce, to integrate live music into the civic and cultural fabric of the community.
-
To preserve the rich tradition of the American community band while celebrating the history and heritage of the Township of Smithtown.
-
To offer local musicians a welcoming and rewarding environment for musical expression, continued growth, and fellowship.
