Bill Link

William T. Link

Founder & Director, Smithtown Community Band

Bill Link is the Director, Co-Founder, and Conductor of the Smithtown Community Band (SCB) and co-founding member of Transitions Saxophone Quartet since 1987. He selects, prepares, and leads musical presentations, and initiates and coordinates the project venues. Before retiring in 2020, Mr. Link was an instrumental music teacher for 36 years, having taught at St. Anthony's High School in Huntington and Comsewogue UFSD in Port Jefferson Station. Mr. Link plays Lead Alto and Soprano Saxophone for Transitions and resides in Smithtown.

Katherine Giuliano holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance on Violin from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and a  Master of Music in Performance from Louisiana State University where she also continued her doctoral studies.
 
As violinist, Katherine has performed in the Campanile String Quartet, the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Louisiana Chamber Orchestra and the New Orleans Ballet and Pops Orchestra. As  a soloist, she has performed with La Musica Chamber Orchestra, the Vermillion Chamber Orchestra and the LSU Symphony. In addition, she has won numerous competitions including the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Kingsville Young Performers Competitions. 

Katherine was violinist in the award winning Northport Piano Trio for ten years, performing throughout New York City and Long Island, as well as Russia, Finland and Europe. She holds professional affiliations with SCMEA, LISFA, ASTA, NAFME and regularly adjudicates NYSSMA festivals.

Katherine has directed Orchestra Programs in in Patchogue-Medford. Plainedge and Northport-East Northport School Districts. and  currently, she teaches part-time in the Northport -East Northport School District and  St. Anthony's High School. She also freelances and maintains a private studio.

Brad Hartman

Bradley S. Hartman

Associate Conductor,
Smithtown Community Band

Bradley S. Hartman is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition and Arranging at Five Towns College. He holds a Master of Music in Wind Conducting from Messiah University, a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Trombone Performance from Long Island University.

 

A dedicated educator with over fifteen years of experience, Mr. Hartman serves as a public school music teacher in New York. He remains active on the podium as the Associate Conductor of the Five Towns College Wind Ensemble and currently serves as the Associate Conductor and Composer-in-Residence for the Smithtown Community Band, a position he has held for twelve years. His conducting credits include previous appointments as Music Director of the Bay Area Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the Northwinds Symphonic Band. Additionally, Mr. Hartman has presented clinics at the International Music Education Summit, the Conn-Selmer Institute, and the New York State School Music Association Winter and Summer Conferences.

 

Mr. Hartman is an accomplished composer with works appearing on MakeMusic Cloud and the Bandworks Top 100 list. His music has been selected for the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List, as well as state lists in North Carolina and Virginia. Notable performances of his work include Lament at The Midwest Clinic New Orchestra Music Reading Session, Allegro con brio by the Texas A&M Symphonic Band, and Symphony No. 1: A Long Island Portrait by the Five Towns College Wind Ensemble. In 2025, he was named a National Finalist for The American Prize in Composition in both the Wind Band and Orchestral divisions. He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the National Association for Music Education, the New York State School Music Association, the New York State Band Directors Association, the Association of Concert Bands, and the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association.
